LAKE TRAVIS — On Friday night, the Lake Travis Cavaliers used their powerful offense to hand the Hendrickson Hawks a 58-15 loss. The Cavaliers, who are the No. 1 ranked team in the state in 4A football, consistently came up with big gains through the air. 
The Hawks defense had a difficult time defending the aerial assault of Michael Brewer, who passed for 324 yards and five touchdowns. And they were unable to force a punt the entire game. The Cavaliers also benefited from three fumbles by the Hawks.
Early on in the game the Hawks gave their fans hope for an upset. After receiving the opening kickoff, they quickly scored when Kenny Williams raced 52 yards for a touchdown to give them a 7-0 lead.
After a botched on-side kick, the Cavaliers took possession on the 42-yard line of Hendrickson. Following two consecutive completions by Brewer, Taylor Wrinkle took a reverse and scored from 21 yards to tie the game at 7-7.
After a punt by the Hawks, Brewer quickly moved his team down field and scored on an 11-yard run to give the Cavaliers a 14-7 lead. The key play in the drive was a 22-yard pass from Brewer to Andy Erickson.
The Hawks would fumble away their next possession at their own 29-yard line. However, the Cavaliers would only manage a 25-yard field goal, which increased their lead to 17-7, as the first quarter ended.
In the second quarter it was more of the same, as the Hawks failed to move the ball consistently and the Cavaliers continued to move the ball at will. The Cavaliers started by going on a 73-yard scoring drive, which was capped off by a 13-yard acrobatic touchdown catch by Griffin Gilbert. The Cavaliers’ two-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful, leaving the score at 23-7.
On their next scoring drive, the Cavaliers would go on a 70-yard drive, culminating in another touchdown. The key play in the drive was a 42-yard run by Erickson that took the ball down to the Hawks 38-yard line. Erickson then scored on a 20-yard run giving the Cavaliers a 30-7 lead.
The Cavaliers’ final score of the half came after they received the ball received with 1:24 remaining before halftime. They proceeded down field on a 92-yard scoring drive that resulted with a 19-yard touchdown pass from Brewer to Jack Patton, widening the gap to 37-7 at halftime.
To start the third quarter, the Cavaliers picked up were they left off and went on 70-yard scoring driving that ended with another 19-yard touchdown pass from Brewer to Patton to make the score 44-7.
The Cavaliers would strike again in the third quarter when Brewer found Connor Floyd for one more 19-yard touchdown pass.
Late in the third quarter, Hawks linebacker Jalen Howard recovered a Cavalier fumble deep in Cavalier territory. Howard, who also plays running back, would then score on fourth down on a 1-yard run. On the two-point conversion Damarion Jackson found Marco Solis in the corner of the end zone to make the score 51-15.
After another failed on-side kick, the Cavaliers took control on the 43-yard line. On the very next play, Michael Pojman scored on a 43-yard touchdown run, followed by the point-after for the final points of the night.
Williams led the Hawks in rushing with 149 yards. The loss dropped the Hawks to 6-2, while the Cavaliers improved to 8-0.
