AUSTIN — The Hendrickson Lady Hawks rode the play of Molly Ahrens and Miranda Vasquez down the stretch to win their bi-district battle against the McCallum Lady Knights 23-25, 25-16, 25-23, 20-25, and 15-9. Ahrens and Vasquez dominated game five, Ahrens provided five kills and Vasquez provided 11 assist in the deciding game.

In game one the Lady Hawks controlled the game early but the Lady Knights fought back behind the play of Katherine Asthon, as she provided five kills during the game. Down 21-18, the Lady Knights went on a 7-2 run to win game one 25 –23.

In game two, the Lady Hawks got out to an early lead before the Lady Knights came back to tie the game at 9-9. Later in the match, the Lady Hawks capitalized on several Lady Knight unforced errors to go on an 8-0 run which allowed them to take control of the game, as they cruised to a 25-16 victory.

After falling behind early in game three, the Lady Hawks came back to tie the game at 9-9, following two aces from Vasquez and a kill by Brittany Gray. The game remained close the rest of the way before the Lady Hawks finally pulled out the 25-23 victory.

In game four, the Lady Knights took an early 8-7 lead and managed to stay in control of the game the rest of the way. Despite remaining close the entire game, the Lady Hawks were never able to capture the lead again, which ended in 25-20 Lady Knights victory.

In the fifth and deciding game, the game remained close in the early going. But that was before Ahrens and Vasquez took over. With their team leading 10-9, Ahrens and Vasquez led their team on a 5-0 run to close out the game. During the run Ahrens and Vasquez connected for three straight kills, as the Lady Hawks closed out the game 15-9.

Ahrens and Gray, had 16 and 15 kills, respectively, while Vasquez provided 45 assists.
