LEANDER — The Hendrickson Hawks began playoff action Friday Night with an impressive 29-0 victory over the Travis Rebels, in a game at Vandergrift High School. The Hawks were led to victory by junior quarterback Damarion Jackson, who had 144 yards rushing and scored three touchdowns.

The over-matched Rebels had a couple of opportunities to put points on the scoreboard but were unable to finishes drives against the aggressive Hawks defense that was led by the play of Terrance Simmons and Juan Asencio.

The Hawks got the scoring started early when Jackson raced 49 yards for a touchdown to give the Hawks a 7-0 lead.

On next possession, the Rebels punter mishandled the snap and the Hawk Michael Brown recovered it at the Rebels 35 yard-line. Following 14-yard run by Kenny Williams, a penalty on the Hawks moved the ball back to the 24-yard line. Jackson then found Will Ward on a 14-yard pass play down to the 10-yard line. On second down, Jackson took it the rest of the way for a 10-yard touchdown run. The Hawks would convert the two-point conversion to make the score 15-0.

In the third quarter the Rebels would threaten the Hawks after recovering a fumble on the Hawks 27-yard line. They quickly moved the ball down to the 5-yard line behind the running of Adam Solis. However, their drive would end when the Hawks’ Stephan Hairston intercepted a pass in the end zone and returned it deep into Rebel territory. A penalty for an illegal block in the back brought the ball back to the 49-yard line.

In the fourth quarter, Jackson would strike again, this time with a 33-yard touchdown run to increase the Hawks’ lead to 22-0.

The Hawks’ final touchdown of the night would come on a 2-yard touchdown run by Curtis Franklin.

Hendrickson played most of the game without leading rusher Kenny Williams. His status for this week is unknown.

The victory improved the Hawks record to 6-4, while the Rebels ended their season at 6-5. The Hawks will take on Kerrville Tivy on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Heroes Stadium (4799 Thousand Oaks Drive) in San Antonio. Tivy beat San Antonio Kennedy 65-2 in the first round. They are also the team that ended the Hawks’ season last year, beating them 45-14 in the state quarterfinals.
