The Hendrickson Lady Hawks put on an offensive clinic as the starting five of Jordyn Johnson, Jazmin Griffin, Nadia Williams, Kathryn Tolbert and Brittany Gray scored from every possible position on the floor to guide the Lady Hawks to a 60 – 35 win over the Lampasas Lady Badgers.
The only time the contest was close was during the first two minutes of the game when Hendrickson held a slim 6-3 lead. In the final six minutes of the quarter the Lady Hawks outscored Lampasas 11-2 to take a 17-5 lead heading into the second quarter.
An identical 17-5 second quarter resulted in the Lady Hawks going into the break with a 34-10 lead. Hendrickson took advantage of their opportunities at the free throw line, going 11 of 14 in the first half. Gray connected on seven of eight attempts.
Hendrickson’s smothering defense prevented Lampasas from establishing any flow and kept the Lady Badgers frustrated and off balance the entire night.
Johnson who entered the night as the leading scorer in District 25-4A (averaging 16 points per game) finished the night with 23 and played a key role in helping the Lady Hawks improve their district record to 5-2 (23-6 overall). The win keeps Hendrickson in contention for the district title and sets up a big game next Tuesday when the Lady Hawks will make the short drive north up 685 to take on Hutto.
