The Pflugerville High boys basketball team held off a late rally by Austin High to earn a hard-fought 67-64 victory Friday night.
The Maroons (19-9, 4-5) led 30-29 at halftime but the Panthers (24-5, 7-2) made a 22-14 run through the third quarter to build a seven-point lead going into the final period and held on for the win.
Demetrius Smith led Pflugerville with 23 points. Deon Mitchell added 18.
Westlake 55, Connally 38
Teres Wilson scored 12 points to lead the Cougars (10-17, 0-9) who fell behind early and never could catch up to the district leading chaps (23-4, 9-0). DarRenaldo Hall added seven points to the Cougar cause.
Hendrickson 83, Lampasas 41
Jalen Washington poured in 25 points to lead the Hawks to their third district win of the year. Hendrickson opened the game with a 15-2 first quarter run and never looked back as they improve to 3-2 in District 25-4A play. Jalen Harris added 13 points and Fernando Rivera chipped in with 10.
Girls
Pflugerville 79, Austin 38
The Panthers celebrated the return of Nneka Enemkpali with a 79-38 pounding of Austin High. Enemkpali, Pflugerville’s all-state post player and University of Texas commit, had not played a game since suffering an injury in last year’s 5A state semi-final game. She scored six points against the Maroons. Itiana Taylor led the district-leading Panthers with 19 points. Adesuwa Ebomwonyi had 13 more and Christie Mooney finished with 10.
