The University Interscholastic League’s biennial realignment came with a bit of a shakeup for District 16-5A.
The realignment forces big changes for the Pflugerville schools, as one switched districts, another switched classifications and the third changed regions.
In District 16-5A, gone are Leander ISD schools Cedar Park and Vista Ridge, both of which dropped from Class 5A to the 4A ranks.
Entering the district will be Pflugerville High School, as the Panthers will be the lone new entry into the league.
Due to the loss of the two Leander ISD schools and the addition to Pflugerville, District 16-5A will have an odd look with just seven schools in the district. The complete district includes Round Rock High, Stony Point, McNeil, Westwood, Leander, Georgetown and Pflugerville.
The district realignment also had a major affect on the two other Pflugerville schools. Both Hendrickson and Connally will compete in District 16-4A and are now in Region 2. District 16-4A now also includes Bastrop and Connally (which both dropped down from Class 5A) Bryan Rudder, Elgin, Hutto, Manor and Hendrickson.
The realignments will go into affect for the 2010-11 and 2011-12 school years.
A complete list of the new districts can be viewed online at www.uil.utexas.edu.
