Food for Fines

The annual Food for Fines drive is going on at the Pflugerville Community Library through Feb. 28. Each can of food brought to the Library will clear one dollar’s worth of fines from a customer’s library account. Pet food donations are also welcome. Donations will be accepted at the Pflugerville Community Library during regular library hours. Please note that Food for Fines cannot be used to credit fees for lost or damaged items or for accounts in collections. Spring Growing Season at the Community Garden

Community Garden plots are for sale for the Spring Growing Season, which runs from Feb. 1 to July 31. The Community Garden located at 2703 E. Pecan St. The gardens offer opportunities to meet staff and neighbors while participating in hands-on planting and nurturing of their own plot in the gardens. Applications and release forms for the Pecan Street Community Gardens are available online at cityofpflugerville.com/gardens or may be picked up at the Pflugerville Recreation Center. AARP Tax Help

A sign-up sheet will be available at 10 a.m. at the Pflugerville Community Library on Feb. 4 and 5. AARP Tax help sessions are scheduled from noon to 4 p.m. on those days. Attendees must sign-up in person.

American Red Cross Certification Classes

Lifeguard training classes are being offered at the Pflugerville Recreation Center. Classes fill up fast, so sign up at the Pflugerville Recreation Center 400 Immanuel Road, for the class of your choice. There are 4 mandatory dates in each class session.

Class 1: Feb 6,7,13,14.

Class 2: March 13,14,15,16;

Class 3: April 10,11,17,18 and

Class 4: May 1,2,8,9

Debbie Shannon chili benefit

A chili benefit for Debbie Shannon will take place Saturday, Feb. 6 from 5-8 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 500 E. Pecan St. Shannon is a single mother and longtime volunteer for the Pflugerville Police Department’s Citizen on Patrol and Victim Services. She is currently battling Stage 3 brain cancer. Donations are being collected for medical and living expenses at: First Bank of Texas, 1600 W. Pecan St., Pflugerville, TX, 78691, c/o Debbie Shannon Friend in Deed Fund.

Chamber Chatter

Hamilton & Associates will host Chamber Chatter for members of the Greater Pflugerville Chamber of Commerce from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Feb. 9 at the Windermere Events Center.

Buesing to be honored

A community reception honoring David Buesing for 29 years of service to the Pflugerville community will be held at the Pflugerville Lions Club, 500 N. Railroad Ave., Thursday, Feb. 11 from 4-7 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

PISD Health Fair

Pflugerville ISD is planning its third annual district-wide health fair to take place at Connally High School on Feb. 13 from 9 a.m. to noon.

PISD will present information, free flu shots, free health screenings and activities related to nutrition, exercise, sports, parks and more. This is event is free for participants and open to all PISD students, siblings, parents and employees.

Knights of Columbus Casino Night

The Knights of Columbus at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Pflugerville is sponsoring a Casino Night on Saturday, Feb. 13 at the parish activity center on 1520 N. Railroad Ave. The public is invited to attend a night out with family and friends. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. with a Mardi Gras style Cajun dinner. Games start at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person purchased in advance or $25 at the door. Tickets may be purchased from the church office or by calling 990-8082. Tickets purchased by Feb. 7 will receive bonus gambling chips. Baby sitting will be available from 6 to 11 p.m. for additional cost.

Travis-Williamson Counties Czech Heritage Society meeting

The Travis-Williamson Counties Czech Heritage Society will meet at 7 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Pflugerville Recreation Center. The mission of the society is to preserve the Czech culture.  For more information, contact Phyllis Teykl at 453-4453.

Friends of Scouting Banquet

Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet, Awards Ceremony

The Greater Pflugerville Chamber of Commerce is hosting its Chamber of Commerce Annual Banquet, Awards Ceremony and Silent Auction from 6 – 9 p.m., Feb. 25, at the Star Ranch Ballroom, 2500 FM 685, Hutto, Texas. Tickets are $50/person, or $400 for a table of 10. Awards will be given in the categories of Lifetime Achievement, Citizen of the Year and Business of the Year as well as a Chair’s Award for Outstanding Service.

Relay For Life
