On a frigid night the Pflugerville Lady Panthers soccer team fought a tough bitter cold wind from the north as well as a tough opponent in the Westlake Chaps. In the end the Chaps and the elements were too much for the Lady Panthers who fell 5-0.

From the start, the Lady Panthers had to face the north wind that was gusting and punishing them, which made it harder to move the ball up the field. The Chaps took advantage of the wind at their backs and relentlessly attacked the goal. Westlake got on the board within the first 10 minutes as sophomore Katharine Noonan scored on a nice cross from Lara Chrisite.

The Panthers had a nice run up the field which ended in a corner kick and a missed opportunity. The Chaps kept busy with a strong attack that resulted in another goal after Noonan received another cross that she buried in the back of the net at 24:13.

The Chaps kept the ball on the Panthers side of the field for most of the first half. A penalty kick was awarded with 5:41 left in the first half outside the box and was spotted to the left side. Westlake’s Allison Ritchie struck the ball hard and watched as it sailed into the upper part of the net, giving Westlake at 3-0 first half lead.

At the start of the second half the Lady Panthers had a spark and great ball movement by Christie Hinajosa who made strong runs up the field and came close to several scoring chances. Cristin Heilker took over the goal for the Panthers and had several nice sliding saves.

The Chaps regained their scoring ways with a screaming shot by Reilly Wheat with 21:11 left to play making it 4-0.

The Lady Panthers challenged with a nice penalty kick shot from outside the box that the keeper had to punch over the cross bar. The Chaps continued to keep the foot on the pedal and took advantage of another scoring chance by Christy Goldberg with 7:27 left in the game.

Heilker came up with a great diving save late in the game to deny the Chaps from another scoring assault.
