The Hendrickson High School swim team swam to a second place finish in the District 25-4A meet in Burnet on Friday.

Freshman Emily Etnyre had a strong showing for the Hawks winning the 200-yard freestyle and the 100 backstroke. Hendrickson’s Meghan Overheim won the 500 freesyle and took second in the 200 freestyle. Sarah Overhein won the 200 IM and placed third in the 100 backstroke. Micalea Moncada placed first in the 100 breaststroke and Rachel McMahon was second in the 50 freestyle.

The boys were led by Michael Forbes who placed second in the 200 IM and Aaron Overheim who was second in the 100 butterfly. Chuck Saunders finished third in the 50 freestyle

While they did not have similar team success, the Pflugerville and Connally High swim teams had plenty of swimmers qualify for region as well. The Panther girls finished fifth and the Cougars were sixth at the District 25-5A meet. Pflugerville’s boys team took fourth while the Cougars placed sixth.

Pflugerville’s Debbi Lawrence finished third in the 200 IM with teammate Kelly Wright coming in sixth. Lawrence added a fourth place finish in the 500 freestlye.

The Panthers 200 medley relay team, Katelyn McMullen, Lawrence, Wright and Alyssa Alvarez, finished fifth while Connally’s team of Amy Hammack, Danielle Casper, Bailey Bryant and Cassandra Romano took sixth.

Pflugerville’s girls 200 freestyle relay team, McMullen, Giselle Gutierrez, Kaleigh Donnelly and Alvarez took third. Connally’s Casper, Bryant, Alexandrea Landeros and Romano were fifth. The Panthers 400 freestyle relay team, Wright, Gutierrez, Donnelly and Lawrence placed fifth. Connally’s Hammack, Romano, Bryant and Casper finished sixth.

In the boys events, Connally’s 400 freestyle relay team, Marco Romano, Adam Coonan, Lucas Beran and Don Tran finished fourth. Pflugerville scored a fourth-place finish in the 200 medley relay with the team of Dakota Kubacak, Hooks, Scott Kubacak and Zach Peters. Connally’s Coonan, Tran, Romano and Beran placed sixth.

The Panthers got a fifth-place finish from Westley Gomez in the 200 freestyle. Peters placed third in the 50 freestyle. Kubacak was fifth in the 100 butterfly, sixth in the 100 breaststroke and the 500 freestyle. Gomez placed sixth in the 500 freestyle. Hooks placed third in the 100 breaststroke.

Nicholas Tyson, Kubacak, Gomez and Peters teamed to take third in the 400 freestyle for the Panthers.

The top six finishers qualify for the region meet in San Antonio on February 12-13.
