Pflugerville High basketball player Demetrius Smith was nominated to the 2010 McDonald’s All-American team last week.

The Lamar University bound Smith is averaging 18 points and close to nine rebounds a game for the Panthers this season.

He was one of five Central Texas basketball players nominated for the honor. The other four are Cody Doolin (Westlake), Daniel Alexander (Dripping Springs), Donald Dallas (LBJ) and Lindsay Ansley (Marble Falls).

The teams are finalized through a series of votes by a selection committee of nationally renowned coaches and sports journalists, and the final teams are announced on Monday.
