KYLE – It has not taken the Hendrickson High girls basketball team long to get the hang of the playoffs. In just their second-ever playoff game, the Hawks destroyed San Antonio Lanier 73-31 to claim an area championship and advance to the 4A Region IV quarterfinals next week.

The game was never really close as Hendrickson opened up with an 11-0 barrage and did not allow the Voks to score a point until the 2:20 mark of the first quarter. The Hawks dropped in two free throws to close the first period with a 13-3 lead and led 29-15 at intermission.

However, their most impressive run started at the 6:29 mark of the third quarter and ended approximately four minutes later. In that relatively short span of time the Hawks scored 23 points while allowing Lanier just five. By the time the third quarter was over Hendrickson held a 56-22 lead and cruised to the win from there.

Four Hawks finished in double digits led by Kathryn Tolbert who scored 25 points. Jordyn Johnson contributed a double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Brittany Gray added 12 points and Jazmin Griffin chipped in 10.

The Hawks will take on the winner of the Boerne Champion/Austin Johnson game next week. Check the print edition of the Pflag for more information on this game and check the site or our Twitter feed for more information on who Hendrickson will play next.
