After finding themselves trailing 1-0 at the break, the Pflugerville Lady Panthers soccer team rallied to score three goals in the second half and then held on for a 3-2 win over the Bastrop Lady Bears Friday night at Kuempel Stadium.
The lone score of the first half occurred just 13 and a half minutes into the contest when Bastrop’s Kattie Paterson score from 12 yards out on a penalty kick giving Bastrop the 1-0 lead. The remainder of the half saw Bastrop keep the pressure on the Pflugerville defense with an attacking offense. Fortunately for the Panthers they were able to withstand the attacks and go into the half only trailing by one.
In the second half both teams got their offenses going as they combined to score four goals during the final 40 minutes of play. Pflugerville got on the board first when Jessica Stanford scored on a free kick, from 25 yards out, to pull the Lady Panthers even at 1-1. The score came with just under 29 minutes remaining in the game. The Panthers were not done however as they added two more goals within a six-minute stretch to secure the victory. Pflugerville’s second goal of the night came as the result of a penalty kick by Christie Hinojosa. Erin Kennedy rounded out the Pflugerville scoring when she was able to control a loose ball in front of the Bastrop goal and slip a shot past the goalie giving Pflugerville a 3-1 lead with 24 minutes left in the game.
