TopstorytrackThe Hendrickson and Pflugerville High track teams kicked off their seasons with strong showings at last weekend’s Hawk Relays. The Hawk boys won their meet while the Panther girls prevailed in theirs. Hendrickson finished with 143 points in the boys events, Stony Point was second with 141 while the Panthers placed third with 94. On the girls side Pflugerville put up 144 points, Hendrickson was second with 131.

In the boys events Hendrickson got wins from D.J. Kirby in the 200-meter dash (22.18 seconds), Josh McKinney in the 400 (50.06) and the 200-relay team, Tommie Robins, Kendall Clanton, Zach Caballero and Juan Asencio (1:30.62). The Panthers scored wins from Tyrus Thompson in the shot put (52-feeet-8-inches), Kizto Njoku in the long jump (21-7.5), the 400-relay team of Caleb Davis, Michael Bowser, Jamal Lee and Drew Travis (3:25.40) and Bowser in the 300 hurdles (39.68).

However, both squads had strong overall showings. For the Hawks Robins was third in the 100 (10.93) with Caballero fourth (10.94). Kirby placed second in the 400 (50.18). Josh McKinney was second in the 800 (2:01). Jeramy Triplett placed sixth in the 1600 (4:38.81) and third in the 3200 (`10;15). Hector Flores was sixth in the 3200 (10:17). The team of Brandon Bedford, Clanton, Caballero and Asencio were second in the 100-meter relay. Jalen Elmore, Kirby, Clanton and McKiney placed third in the 400-meter relay (3:30.12). McKinney was second in the long jump (21-5) while Clanton placed third (20-6). Simmons took fourth in the shot put (45-3.75), Ryan Allen was sixth (44-2.75). Simmons was third in the discus (135-6). Royzell Gothwright finished fifth in the triple jump (40-7) and second in the pole vault (10-6). Brandon Perkins placed third in the pole vault (10-0).

Njoku placed sixth in the 100 (11.02) for the Panthers. Jamal Lee was third in the 200 (22.84). Travis took third in the 400 (50.43) and James Hillard was fifth (51.47). Yusef Khan took fifth in the 3200 (10:19). Bowser placed third in the 110 hurdles (15.21) with Joseph Sanchez fifth (16.18). Travis, Njoku, Desmond Ross and Lee took fourth in the 100 relay. Thompson placed fourth in the discus (127-2). Njoku took second in the high jump (6-0).

The Panther girls got firsts from Carly Gibson in the 3200 (12:19), the 400 relay team, Monia Clark, Taylor Cobbs, Danielle Aiken and Breana Friar (4:07.75), Clark in the high jump (5-2) and Sarah Foley in the pole vault (8-6). Hendrickson’s firsts came from their 200-meter relay team, Shavona Tavarez, Erica Greene, Kiana Burgess and Karissa Graves mill (1:44.18), Greene in the 300 hurdles (48.06), Tasha Mayne in the 800 (2:24 and Kayla Brown in the 400 (1:01).

Danielle Aiken took second in the 100 (12.31) for the Panthers. Aisha Fuller finished fourth (12.37). Lashawnda Simmons was third in the 200 (25.18) and Kaylah Burton took sixth (26.28). Gibson finished second in the 1600 (5:37.72). Diana Omozee took second in the 100 hurdles (16.02). Clark was second in the 300 hurdles (48.12). Fuller, Burton, Simmons and Cobbs took fourth in the 100 relay (49.96). Burton, Aiken, Simmons and Fuller were second in the 200 relay (1:44.28). Burton was third in the long jump (16-2). Linda Tappa finished sixth in the shot put (31-0.5) and second in the discus (87-4.5). Melissa Salinas was third in the discus (85-9.5). Sierra Martin placed third in the pole vault (6-6) and Alyssa Murphy was fifth (6-6).

The Hawks got a third from Gravesmill in the 100 (12.32) as well a sixth from Brittany Gaines (12.80). Mayne placed second in the 400 (1:02). Kayla Brown was fourth in the 800 (2:28). Sade Triplett was fifth in the 1600 (5:53.56) and fourth in the 3200 (12:46). Alexandria Bradburn finished fifth in the 3200 (13:27). The team of Tavarez, Greene, Burgess and Jennifer Mbanasor placed second in the 100 relay (49.78). Tavarez, Brown, Mayne and Brittany Gaines took second in the 200 relay (4:08.84). Mayne placed third in the shot put (32-10.5) and pole vault (6-6). Tavarez took third in the triple jump (34-2.25). Glad Nwaozo was fourth in the high jump (4-10) while Chelsea Williams took sixth (4-6).

The Panther boys took second in the junior varsity meet, finishing with 143 points. Stony Point won with 218. Hendrickson finished sixth with 29. Pflugerville’s junior varsity girls were second as well with 136 points, behind winner Killeen who finished with 174. Hendrickson took fifth with 44.

Pflugerville got wins from George Murochkis in the 110 hurdles (16.0), the 300 hurdles (41.66) and the high jump (6-2). Hendrickson’s top finish was a second from Max Willis in the high jump (6-2).

The Panther girls got wins from Jasmine Brooks in the 400 (1:01.53), Moyra Tran in the 1600 (5:58.74) and Taliyah Brooks in the 100 hurdles (14.37), 300 hurdles (45.75), high jump (5-7) and long jump (18-2). The Panthers 200 relay team, Jasmine Brooks, Taliyah Brooks, Vera-Mae Walker and Stacy Ogunrinade also won (1:47). Sylvia Omozee won the discus (90-6) and Samantha Parks took the pole vault (6-6). The Hawks got a second from Mariah Millsaps, Ambrie Sorrells, Kiara Sowell and Brittany Hidrogo in the 4×400 (4:30.32) and the 4×100 (52.94).
