ROUND ROCK – The Pflugerville High baseball team took one on the chin Friday night, falling to Round Rock 11-2 at Dragon Field.

The Panthers struggled to solve Round Rock hurler Alex Dumaine. The senior lefty scattered three hits in the game while striking out 11.

After Dumaine struck out the first three Pflugerville hitters he faced, the Panthers offense went to work in the second inning. Josh Williams led things off with a single and stole second base. He came in to score when Alex Brieno drove a double down the right field line. Dumaine settled down and retired the next two hitters he faced to avoid any more damage.

After falling into a one-run hole, the Dragon offense went to work in the bottom of the second. Dumaine led off the inning with a triple, sparking an eight-run outburst. Ryan Terry and Travis Evans each had two-run base hits in the inning and Round Rock never looked back.

Dumaine cruised through the middle innings. He retired the side in order in the third and fifth. He got in a bit of trouble in the fourth, walking two hitters with two outs, but got John Martin to hit a ground ball to shortstop to end the inning.

The Panthers added one more run in the top of the sixth. Kyle Kulczyk struck out to lead off the inning but reached first on an error on the Round Rock catcher. Kulczyk moved to second on a wild pitch and took third on a ground ball by Williams that resulted in the second out of the inning. Jake Wooten delivered the run for Pflugerville with a single, but Dumaine got a ground ball from Brieno to end the inning.
