Haley Outon ripped a three-run home run and her twin sister Diedre took care of the rest to carry the Pflugerville High softball team to a 4-0 win over San Antonio Churchill in the first game of their best-of-three bi-district matchup Friday.

According to the National Alliance of Youth Sports, more than 30 million children participate in both team and individual sports, such as basketball, football, baseball and swimming. Spring and summer mark the start of numerous activities that are fun ways to improve physical fitness and hand-eye coordination, while teaching children determination and teamwork. Unfortunately, these activities are also some of the most frequent causes of youth injuries.

Gov. Rick Perry has appointed two new members and reappointed three members to the Texas School Safety Center Board for terms to expire Feb. 1, 2012. The board advises the Texas School Safety Center in San Marcos, which provides school safety information and resources for the prevention of youth violence.

If this were a skateboard event, Hurta would be at the point where the competitor eyes the lay of the land just before dropping his board and pushing forward, or at least that is his hope. Hurta is a private citizen and does have an agenda – he wants a skatepark built in Pflugerville.
