The Connally High boys track team won last week’s Panther Relays while the Pflugerville Panthers took second. The Hendrickson High girls were second as well with Connally finishing in fourth place.
The Cougars scored wins from Ashton Deshay in the shot put (53 feet), Aaron Bynum in the discus (155-0) and Jacael Davis in the high jump (6-4). Connally’s 400-meter relay team, Davis, Brandon Pittman, Jacoby Sanders and Brian Washington also won (41.7 seconds) as did the team of Sanders, Pittman, Tray Rice and Washington in the 800 relay. The Panther boys got just one first place finish as Michael Bowser won the 300-meter hurdles in 38.97 seconds.
The Cougars also got a third from Davis in the 110 hurdles (14.8) and a second from Rice in the 100. Pittman was second in the 200 (21.7) and Washington third (21.8). Rice finished third in the long jump (21-8) and triple jump (42-5).
Despite just having the one win, Pflugerville scored plenty of points in the meet. Desmond Smith took sixth in the 100 (11.27). James Hilliard was third in the 400 (50.28). Nathan McCallum placed sixth in the 800 (2:05.19). Yusef Khan was fourth in the 1600 (4:52.43) and second in the 3200 (10:09.02). Bowser placed second in the 110 hurdles (14.78) while George Murochkis was fifth (15.24). Murochkis also placed third in the 300 (39.62). Tyrus Thompson finished third in the discus (135-feet-5-inches) and fourth in the shot put (51-5). Kizto Njoku was fourth in the long jump (21-2) and fifth in the high jump (6-2). Murochkis placed fifth in the triple jump (41-1).
The Panthers had a strong showing in the relays as well. Smith, Njoku, Desmond Ross and Jamal Lee took second in the 400-meter relay (42.72). Njoku, Storm Woods, Sammy Flowers and Lee were fifth in the 800 relay (1:30.44) and Hilliard, Bowser, Murochkis and Lee took second in the 1600 relay (3:28.62).
The Hendrickson girls lone win came from Tasha Mayne in the 800. Connally’s Megan Matthews won the 100, Cindy Okpegbue won the 400 and Brittany Roberts took gold in the shot put and the discus.
