Hendrickson High’s Sergio Gomez and Julio Espinosa were recently honored as District 49-4A’s defender of the year and offensive MVP for the past season. Hendrickson’s Samantha Nunez was named the offensive MVP for the girls.
Hawks Michael Hicks, Carlos Gomez, Gabe Williams and Anselmo Jimenez were first-team all district picks for the district champion Hawks.
Chase Tabor, Henry Castellanos, Martin Ramirez and Keith Warren were second-team selections.
Honorable mention went to Casey Tilley, Ryan Perez and Michael White.
Tyane Ramos, Natalie Morales and Megan Baker were first-team picks on the girls’ side. Asia Williams, Kamille Johnson and Julie Saba were second-team picks while honorable mention went to Haley Cantu, Katelyn Frederick and Courtney Bieda.

Megan Baker – not Megan Balzer
Where is the second part of your girl soccer article? It’s shown in your newpaper but not online. No offense to Hendrickson but you should have led with 25-5a. Hendrickson (a 4A school), compared to Pflugerville High School (a 5A school) its like comparing UT football to Texas State football. Pflugerville High School has a much tougher schedule like Bowie, Westlake, Austin High etc. whereas Hendrickson plays Manor, Hutto, etc. Any girl on second team 25-5A would be an all-century player in 4A. Sorry for getting on my soap box but Pflugerville High School sports (especially girls soccer) doesn’t seem to get as much attention as Hendrickson.
Thanks
OK, seriously. That sort of comment probably should have gone directly to the Pflag office–NOT online. “No offense” or not, that was offensive to ANY Hendrickson player.
Hi Rudy – Sorry you are so upset. If you look over on the right side of your screen, you will see that you have your own separate article listing your district titles. See – they didn’t forget you. Ours were just listed first because that’s the order they received them in. If you go back and count how many times our soccer girls have been covered in the paper, I think you will calm down. Our main coverage was in the playoffs, because we went beyond our regular season – not during the season. It is just sad to say that girl’s soccer does not get the attention. If anything, you should be asking for more girl’s soccer coverage, not blasting Hendrickson. Yes, I know that 5A is bigger than 4A. Schools are usually tougher when they are bigger because they have more girls to draw from. The majority of our team does play club soccer outside of school and we really do deserve a little credit for our accomplishments. We too don’t feel like we get the credit we deserve. Your daughter did very well this year. You should be very proud – congratulations. I would like to see Hendrickson play Pflugerville in a scrimmage, you might be surprised.
Wow!
How often do you open The Pflag and see the losses of PHS and CHS before you have to flip a few pages and see the wins of HHS?
It is not until HHS goes on and PHS and CHS stay behind that we are worthy of a front page article.
Yes these two Pflugerville Schools may be 5A, but that certainly does not mean they are any better than the next!
I think the difference is that HHS soccer had a TEAM and not individual players.
Good luck next year.
ur absolutely right, This is my third visit to this blog , I will return soon !
Maybe if Hendrickson would scrimmage Pflugerville in girls soccer we could actually see who is better! So far the many times PHS has requested a scrimmage HHS would back out. I for one am very tired of hearing them brag on how great they are, but yet never have the guts to show it? Even they’re own coach talks a little too much smack for his own good. No need to downgrade anyone, but really if you honestly want to see who is better, one of you HHS supporters can tell them to come scrimmage PHS anytime! And furthermore yes PHS didn’t have as great a season last year but they had way tougher competition then Hendrickson ever had. PHS playedHutto last year or the year before in a non-district game and absolutely slaughtered them, so I’m sure if PHS was in the same district as HHS it would be a piece of cake.
Thank you.
