New service from bank

Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union has launched a new mobile deposit service that allows members to easily and almost instantaneously deposit checks using iPhone or Android devices.

The credit union already offers a scan-at-home deposit tool, eDeposits, for qualifying members. To date, more than $46 million has been deposited by eDeposits users. Because of the success of eDeposits and the interest in the mobile application, the credit union plans to continue the development of remote deposit capture for all mobile phones with at least a 2.0-megapixel camera and Internet access.

“By offering mobile deposits, we’re increasing the convenience associated with RBFCU membership,” Mary O’Rourke, assistant vice president of NetBranch Services, said in a written statement. “Providing our members with innovative technology like remote deposit capture helps them to successfully manage their finances whenever and where ever they need our services.”

To deposit a check using the mBranch deposit tool, qualifying RBFCU members will use their phone’s built-in camera to take pictures of the front and back of their check and will submit them to RBFCU. Within minutes, members should receive e-mail confirmation of the completed deposit.

The mobile application was developed by Eastern Corporate Federal Credit Union and RBFCU will be one of the first credit unions to make an application of this type available to its membership, Randolph-Brooks officials said.
