Former LSU catcher and Pflugerville native Micah Gibbs has been voted to the 2010 American Baseball Coaches Association first-team All-South Region squad, which makes Gibbs eligible for the ABCA All-America team that will be announced this month.

Gibbs earned second-team All-America honors from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. He was also a first-team All-Southeastern Conference selection by the league coaches, and he was voted to the All-SEC Defensive Team for the second straight year.

Gibbs was the Tigers’ leading hitter last season, batting .388 with 14 doubles, three triples, 10 home runs and 60 RBIs. He was selected in the third round of the Major League Baseball Draft last month by the Chicago Cubs and is in team’s minor league system.

In three seasons at LSU, Gibbs posted a .336 career batting average in 187 games (177 starts) with 46 doubles, five triples, 18 homers, 137 RBIs and 11 stolen bases.

He was named to the 2009 ABCA Gold Glove Team, and he was the starting catcher for the 2008 U.S. National Team that won the gold medal at the World Championships in the Czech Republic.
