The Connally Cougars’ volleyball team lost to the Leander Lions 21-25, 25-23, 19-25, and 13-25. It was a match in which the youthful Cougars made several unforced mistakes, ultimately affecting the overall outcome.

In the first game, the Lions took control early and led most of the way, as they capitalized on the Cougar mistakes. However, the Cougars fought back to a 17-13 lead, following back-to-back kills by Elizabeth Johnbull. The more experienced Lions responded by mounting a 12-4 run to close out the game.

In the second game, the Lions took a seemingly commanding 20-13 lead before the Cougars battled back behind the outstanding play of Kara Babola and Johnbull to win the game 25-23.

In the early going of the third game, the Cougars managed to stay close behind the strong play of Johnbull. Johnbull, a junior, gave the Cougars their only lead of the game at 11-10, following another kill. However, the Lions built a 20-14 lead before Babola and Johnbull led a Cougar rally to cut their lead to 20-18. Despite their efforts, the Cougars came up short, losing the game 19-25.

In the final game, the Lions dominated from beginning to end, as they led by as many as 13 points and cruising to their easiest win of the night.
