The Connally fans that made the short drive north to Stony Point High School Tuesday night watched their Lady Cougars fight, claw, and exhibit stretches of solid play for the entire evening. But in the end the Cougars lost three games to the Lady Tigers 25-16, 25-17, and 25-14 in varsity volleyball action.

The Lady Cougars made some runs in all three games but never could gain enough momentum to overtake the Lady Tigers. Stony Point on the other hand, led by the play of Brittany Hartman, Dana Faught, Rachel Johnson, Katey Griffith, and Eboni Godfrey, kept the Lady Cougars off balance the entire night.

In the first game Connally kept the contest close until midway through the game when Stony Point turned a 9-9 game into a 25-16 win by outscoring Connally 16-7 down the stretch. The highlight play for the Lady Cougars during the first game came courtesy of an Alex Horton block that gave Connally a 6-4 lead early in the game.

In game two the Lady Cougars jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before Stony Point tied it up at four all. Once Stony Point gained the lead they did not relinquish it and actually stretched it to as much as six points before finally taking the game by a score of 25-17. Kara Babola and Horton’s strong net play allowed the Lady Cougars to keep the contest close in the early going.

Game three saw the Lady Cougars fall behind early by a score of 3-1 before pulling even at 4-4. Connally did manage to take a brief 6-5 lead, thanks to a kill by Elizabeth Johnbull, before being outscore 20-8 by the Lady Tigers.

The Lady Cougars will be looking to get back in the win column when they play host to the Pflugerville Panthers Friday night. First serve is set for 7:15.
