Football season kicks off Friday and the people behind the scenes in the Pflugerville Independent School District athletic office have been hard at work to make sure every game goes off with out a hitch this season.
With the increase in success and attendance at all three PISD schools, this can be tricky as large crowds often overwhelm seating capacities, sometimes forcing fans of the local squads to sit in the visitor’s section when the home side sells out.
“We want the spectators to know we value their support,” PISD athletic director Dwayne Weirich said. “We’re doing everything we can to provide a quality experience for all who attend the games.”
PISD sells only the number of tickets that each school’s stadium holds. When capacity is reached on the home side, fans must enter the stadium on the visitor’s side of the stadium and sit in the overflow seating set up there.
Weirich said there were other rules at each stadium fans need to be aware of. They include, no outside food or drinks, no umbrellas and no re-entry unless you purchase a new ticket. Artificial noisemakers are banned unless prior approval has been granted by the PISD athletic office and alcohol and tobacco are banned on all PISD campuses.
“We want everyone to have a good experience,” Weirich added. “With the return of Pflugerville to their old district we expect to see bigger crowds because the visiting teams will bring more fans.”
Hendrickson and Pflugerville open their seasons at home Friday. The Hawks host Vista Ridge while the Panthers play Bowie. Connally opens their season on the road in Temple. The Cougars first home game will be Sept. 3 against Del Valle. All Friday night games start at 7:30 p.m.
